Alpha Financial Technologies, LLC (AFT) is recognized for its unique algorithmic trading methodologies of which several have been licensed to Standard & Poor's. Developed by a team of quantitative analysts led by the company founder and professional trader Victor Sperandeo, AFT’s trading methodologies are currently utilized by investment banks in more than 10 countries around the globe.
The staple of the company's trading methodologies is what is known today as the Standard & Poor’s Diversified Trends Indicator, or S&P DTI, which was originally created by AFT. It’s a global composite of 24 commodity and financial futures which are mathematically positioned either long or short in an attempt to profit from market trends in either direction. The S&P DTI is 50% weighted to commodity futures and 50% to global financial futures.
While the S&P DTI serves as AFT’s core indicator, Standard & Poor’s offers a commodity only version (The S&P Commodity Trends Indicator) and a financial futures only version (The S&P Financial Trends Indicator). Each indicator shares the same long and short algorithm as that of the S&P DTI and are simply sub-indicators of the S&P DTI.
Currently Standard & Poor’s sub-licenses the S&P Diversified Trends Indicator, the S&P Commodity Trends Indicator and the S&P Financial Trends Indicator to third parties for use in connection with financial products to be structured, issued and sold globally.
AFT has also created domestic and global equity futures index strategies. As of 12/31/08 there is over $2.5 billion linked to products utilizing AFT's indicators.
One of the risks associated with products utilizing AFT’s indicators (“Products”) is the complexity of the different factors which contribute to the results thereof. Products could decline in a wide range of different market scenarios, including ones in which similar financial products rise substantially. Over the long-term, there is a greater likelihood that the performance potential suggested may be realized; however, over the short-term there is a much greater possibility that Products may decline substantially, causing significant declines. No assurances can be made that the Products’ objectives will be achieved or that losses will be avoided. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.
